Medicom Evangelion Mark.09 RAH

So I've been wanting to do a review of the Eva Real Actions Heroes line from Medicom for a long time, so I'm going to start with the latest addition, Mark.09. This is my first review, so please let me know if there are are points you would like me to talk about, or other pictures. :)

General Info
Eva Mark.09 marks the 7th RAH in the series of Evas from Medicom. It can be purchased in most stores for about ¥20000. AmiAmi seems to have the best prices around. The price may fall in the future as the Evangelion 3.0 RAHs are not nearly as popular as the original 3 classics.

The Box: 10/10

I am always super excited to receive a new Eva RAH figure because Medicom doesn't cut corners on any details, and the box is no exception. They do a great job of detailing the figure in an exciting action pose and the font choices are very futuristic and fitting for the Evas. The boxes are always made out of a solid material that is very sturdy and feels high quality.

The back features a few more shots of the figure, also showing the single eye can be swiveled in any direction.

The Eva RAH boxes are also great display pieces because the front can be opened to reveal the figure inside if you would rather show it off from inside its box.

Taking the figure out of the box reveals two different parts. One part contains our Eva Mark.09, along with the different attachable hands, and the head. Mark.09 can be displayed with or without its head, and arrives headless.

The other part contains the base, and the gigantic scythe accessory. Unlike most other Eva RAHs, Mark.09 does not include an umbilical cable that would normally attach to its back. A small metal tool is also included that is used to remove the small placeholder piece on its neck and allow you to attach the head.

Taking off the plastic covering gives us a better view.

The Base: 6/10
Nothing exciting about the base. This is a standard base included with all the Eva RAHs and mostly serves as a support to grab their torso and prevent them from toppling over if they are standing. Nothing decorative about it, but it does its job well enough.

The Figure: 9/10
Eva RAHs have impressed me for their accuracy, detail, articulation, included accessories, and outstanding craftsmanship overall. I only dock a point here because they are a bit more delicate than they look, so a gentle and careful hand is required when posing them to avoid cracking or snapping any of the plastic armor.

The paint is very well done. All the lines look pretty clean and I did not notice any paint splotches on my unit.

Mark.09 is sort of a hybrid between the original Evas, and the newer, chunkier Evas featured in the Evangelion 3.0 movie. By that I mean it has multi-segmented torso armor, but still a bit bulkier. Unit 02 Gamma, and Unit 08 Beta feature just a 3-segment armor that limits the torso articulation quite a bit. Mark.09 is still not very flexible at its torso, but it's just a difference to point out.

Here is Mark.09 as it arrives out of the box.

There is no top hatch to open like on Units 00, 01, and 02, so no entry plug accessory is included either.

The feet and arms as well as the shin armor are removable on the Eva RAHs, however I don't usually mess with removing the shin armor because the black fabric usually gets caught on the plastic as you slide it back on, and bunches up towards the knee so I just removed the foot to show.

The knee armor is also moveable unlike Unit 08 and Unit 02 Gamma.

To remove the small plastic placeholder on the neck, we need to use the metal tool included to slide inside the opening between the piece and the neck, and pull it out. A piece of literature is included that details the process as well.
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/07/31/1064698.jpeg

It ended up working best for me to slide the tool behind the piece and sort of wedge it out. Be sure to apply small amounts of force to avoid any accidents!

Now that piece is TINY!! Try not to lose it.

And with that we can attach the head. Simply slide it into the hole on the neck.

As I mentioned before the eye can swivel in any direction easily. Pretty cool!

You can get a fair amount of range bending the legs.

The torso is not that flexible though...

Accessories: 8/10
The accessories here are pretty cool. You have quite a lot of hands to choose from, as well as a crazy scythe. I kind of wish an umbilical cable was included though. I also thought a really cool idea would be to include the rocket boosters as shown in the beginning of Evangelion 3.0, but I suppose that would have been way too big and hard to attach.

The scythe comes in two pieces, and I find it east to slide the hand onto the bottom section first and then attach the top.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/07/31/1064723.jpeg

You can get some great action poses with the scythe too, although it is a bit too heavy to be held up reliably with one arm, so I use both arms to support it.
http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/07/31/1064724.jpeg

And some more cool shots...

Overall I'm very pleased with this RAH. It's true to the anime, and very sturdy. Definitely a welcome addition to my collection.

That about wraps up my review for Mark.09. Let me know how I did in the comments. ^_^
