1,200 American flags now decorate the graves at Morris Hill Cemetery.

CBS 2 spoke with the volunteer group that's responsible for placing the stars and stripes there, also uncovering a message it wants us all to appreciate.

"It's an honor, it's a liberty. It's our freedom," said Clint Paskewitz, a former Exchange Club of Boise president.

You can thank the Exchange Club of Boise for the patriotic decorations at Morris Hill Cemetery.

Paskewitz said placing the flags just made sense.

"We have a number of different programs that we do for the community and one of them entails Americanism," said Paskeqitz. "...and what better way of preaching that than to come out and honor these fallen soldiers that have served to give us the opportunity to celebrate days like the Fourth of July."

About 40 volunteers helped place more than 1200 flags on veteran graves.

Paskewitz said some of the younger volunteers were curious about the purpose behind the event and the respect being shown.

"I've got a little girl, she's seven years old. And, we were having that conversation exactly. Do you know who is this? Do you know him, daddy? And I said, I don't," explained Paskewitz. "But I'm honored to be here in their presence today and remembering everything that they did for us and for our country, kind of thing."

It's this feeling of patriotic remembrance that Paskewitz says the Fourth of July is all about.

"It's everything that should be bringing us together as a country, to unite us, to remember those before us and just to cherish the day with your loved ones," said Paskewitz.
